As we reach the end of another busy and successful term at South Axholme Academy, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible experiences and opportunities our students have embraced over the past few months. This term has been filled with hard work, achievement, and personal growth, and I couldn’t be prouder of our school community.
From outstanding performances in sports competitions to inspiring creative arts showcases, our students have demonstrated dedication, teamwork, and passion in everything they do. We’ve seen academic excellence across all year groups, with pupils pushing themselves to reach new heights in their studies and preparing for the challenges ahead. Our extracurricular clubs and trips have also provided invaluable experiences, broadening horizons and creating lasting memories.
A huge thank you to our dedicated staff, who continually go above and beyond to provide these enriching opportunities, and to our students, whose enthusiasm and commitment make South Axholme Academy such a special place. I also extend my gratitude to parents and carers for your continued support—it truly makes a difference.
As we head into the Easter break, I encourage everyone to take time to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with family and friends. For those preparing for exams, use this time wisely, but also remember the importance of balance and well-being.
Wishing you all a joyful and restful Easter. I look forward to welcoming you back for another exciting term ahead.

South Axholme Academy's Production of
Sister Act Jr.
We are proud to share some highlights from this term's annual school production of Sister Act Jr, which has been a remarkable journey for our talented cast and crew.
After eleven months of hard work and dedication, the students had the opportunity to shine in three fantastic performances! On Monday, 3 March 2025, local feeder primary schools joined us for a delightful matinée. Then, on Tuesday, 4 March and Wednesday, 5 March, we welcomed family and friends to witness the magic our students created.
A huge round of applause goes to the Production Club, who tirelessly dedicated their time after school each week and on weekends to ensure everything was performed to the highest quality. They truly did not disappoint!
Our lead performers were nothing short of spectacular! Macie-Lou Davies dazzled as Deloris Van Cartier, perfectly embodying the character with the sass of an icon and the voice of a rockstar. Poppy Brook’s portrayal of Mother Superior was equally memorable, blending authority and angelic singing beautifully. The talented Evie Fairbank graced the stage as Monsignor O'Hara, and Riley Douglas brought hilarious flair to the role of Officer Eddie Souther.
Ciaran Curtis was the perfect villainous Curtis Jackson, while Victoria Jones shone as the sweet Sister Mary Robert. Molly Irwin's portrayal of Sister Mary Lazarus was a joy to behold, and we owe much to Meredith Jackson, who stepped in last minute to take on the role of Sister Mary Patrick, proving what a superstar she truly is!
The ensemble and crew, whose amazing energy filled the stage and contributed significantly to the success of the performances— the atmosphere was simply electric!
Mrs Brook would like to express gratitude to the students for their time, resilience, and motivation; it certainly paid off, resulting in an incredible show. She would also like to thank all parents and carers for their invaluable support in getting the students to and from the Academy and attending their performances.
Stay tuned for more exciting news about our next whole school production!
A special shout-out to Robyn Letherland as well, for dedicating so much of her time to help stage the production while juggling her GCSE studies. Her insights and creativity were truly appreciated!

New York - February Half-Term
|
|
|
I am thrilled to share the wonderful experiences that our Year 10 and 11 students embarked on during the February half-term in New York City. A total of 38 students enjoyed an unforgettable journey, blending Business and Expressive and Performing Arts.
Our adventure began with a visit to the United Nations, where students gained a fascinating global perspective on international relations. They were then treated to an engaging business talk at Hershey’s Chocolate World, diving deep into the strategies that make this iconic brand thrive.
The excitement didn’t stop there! We ventured to Broadway, where students attended a spellbinding performance of Wicked. They also participated in a hands-on workshop, learning from theatre professionals and experiencing the magic of the stage first-hand.
Throughout this adventure, our students showcased resilience, respect, and the very best of the SAX mindset. Their enthusiasm and curiosity truly enhanced the experience, making it a remarkable journey that we will cherish for years to come.

Excellence in Mindset - Commando Chef
Colour Sergeant Mike Beaton visited the academy this term. He is also known as the 'Commando Chef', has dedicated 37 years of service to the Royal Marines.
Despite leaving school without qualifications and having a rough start in life, he acknowledges the Marines for turning things around for him.
Famous online for his catchy 'Boom!' tagline, the commando is giving back to the community by teaching young people the principles of the Royal Marines through hands-on cooking classes.

Home Learning - Satchel One Reminder
At South Axholme Academy, home learning is an essential part of school life as it supports the curriculum, subject interests and develops core skills such as organisation and independent learning.
Research from the Education Endowment Foundation shows that ‘the impact of homework on learning is consistently positive leading to on average five months’ additional progress.’
To help support students, all home learning at South Axholme is set on a platform called Satchel One. We have been using this platform for a year, and it is proving to be very successful, allowing parents/carers to keep track of their child's homework. As we embrace an increasingly digital approach to work, this provides an up-to-date way of working for all of our community.
Please encourage your child to download the Satchel One app onto their devices. Students can also access Satchel One via any computer if they are unable to download the app.
If you have not yet got your parent information to enable you to access Satchel One to support your child at home, please contact the academy.
We thank parents and students for their cooperation with this.

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITY UPDATE
If your child is on the SEND register, there will be an opportunity to review their support plan at your child's parents' evening. If you would like an additional review meeting with the SENCO, please contact our admin team who will be able to arrange this for you.
If you have any queries or concerns relating to SEND, please contact the SEND team in school. You can do this using our dedicated email address:

Please note that we currently have a waiting list for submitting new referrals for neurodiversity assessment. This process typically takes at least a full academic term to gather sufficient evidence in order to submit a robust referral.
Fidget tools:
If your child has an identified need for a fidget tool on their SEND support plan, please note that the only ones allowed in school are the silicone pebbles. All other fidgets toys will be confiscated and returned at the end of the school day.

Meet Barney our Therapy Dog!!
We are excited to introduce Barney the wellbeing dog to South Axholme Academy. Many schools now utilise a programme whereby wellbeing dogs are welcomed into schools to support individuals and the whole school community.
Barney is owned and cared for by Mrs Clarke (Year 10 PAL), and Barney is fully insured and is an experienced wellbeing dog used to working in schools. He has been in and around education settings since he was a puppy and is used to the environment of a busy school. There is no cost to South Axholme Academy.
Barney is a medium sized 7-year-old hypoallergenic, non-shedding
There is supporting evidence that this experience can really enhance a student’s engagement with school whether that be in terms of a reward, students who are anxious coming into school, and a wide range of other uses. Barney is used to being around students who may be experiencing stress and anxiety. Benefits to the wider school community – students who may not be able to have a pet at home can “buy into” the experience and build a relationship with Barney.

Isle Education Trust Catering - As always, we have had a very busy term in the canteen, bringing lots of delicious meals.
As the cost of ingredients is still rising in the catering industry, we have managed to keep our prices frozen as we know times are hard for everyone. However, we have increased the cost of main meals to £2.80, which is in line with the Free School Meal allowance. It remains our best value for money option, with a main meal and a choice of a hot pudding or a bottle of water, so we try to encourage students to take this offer up at lunch times.
We saw the arrival of our new pod, which serves cold grab and go items, drinks, and lighter options for lunch as well as jacket potatoes. This will make queues shorter, more streamlined and will give students more options as to where they can purchase their food and drinks from.
Please see the new menu coming up for the summer term put together by our highly trained chef . We will also have plenty of themed days to keep students excited and engaged coming up next term.
I hope you all have a lovely Easter break, myself and the IET catering team will look forward to seeing you all soon.
