Dear Staff, Parents, and Students,
As we approach the end of another year, I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude and warm wishes to each member of our school community.
To our dedicated staff, your hard work, passion, and commitment to excellence have made this year truly remarkable. Whether it was guiding our students through academic challenges, fostering creativity, or instilling life values, your efforts have been the foundation of our success. You are the heart of this school, and I thank you for everything you do.
To our supportive parents, your partnership and trust have been invaluable. Your involvement in your children’s education and your unwavering encouragement have played a vital role in creating a nurturing environment that inspires success. Together, we’ve built a strong community, and for that, I am deeply thankful.
To our incredible students, you are the reason we do what we do. Your curiosity, resilience, and achievements have been a source of pride and joy throughout the year. Whether you excelled academically, contributed to sports or arts, or simply gave your best, each of you has brought something special to our school.
As we celebrate the festive season, let us take a moment to reflect on our accomplishments and challenges this year. Let us also look forward to 2025 with renewed hope, determination, and a commitment to growing together as a community.
May this Christmas be filled with peace, joy, and love for you and your families, and may the New Year bring health, happiness, and success to all.
Thank you for being part of this amazing journey. I look forward to all that we will achieve together in the year ahead.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

As we bid farewell to another term at Isle Education Trust, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible journey we have shared this term. Our academies have been buzzing with energy, enthusiasm, and an unwavering commitment to learning. Students have excelled in their studies, participated in engaging projects, and showcased their talents in various performances. It has been heartwarming to see our community come together to support one another, creating an environment where every child can thrive.
As we embrace the festive season, let’s take a moment to reflect on the joys of Christmas. Did you know that the tradition of hanging stockings comes from a story about a kind man named St. Nicholas? Legend has it that he secretly dropped gold coins down the chimney of a poor family's home, which landed in their stockings that were hung by the fire to dry. This story reminds us of the spirit of giving and kindness that embodies this season.
As we prepare for the Christmas break, I encourage everyone to take this time to relax, recharge, and enjoy precious moments with family and friends.
Wishing you all a joyful Christmas filled with love and laughter, and a New Year that brings new opportunities and adventures.

Sponsored Walk
This is still one of the old favourites on the South Axholme Academy calendar. On Friday 27 September, staff and students set off on the annual sponsored walk. The weather was kind and a good day was had by all - students showed resilience as they completed the 10km route.
A total of £5,976.00 was raised at the event - 10% of the proceeds this year went to Dementia UK.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for sponsoring your child/student for this event. Your contribution will go a long way in supporting our initiatives and the community at large.
Once again, thank you for your generosity and support. We look forward to your continued involvement in our future endeavours.

Excellence in Opportunities

Fantastic teamwork and problem-solving skills were demonstrated by the students at the Girls' STEM event on 27 September. Students had the opportunity to explore different opportunities in STEM and really showcased their abilities.
It is great to see our students excelling in such important areas, and events like this really highlight the collaborative and innovative spirit here at our academy.

Thank you to the parents/carers and friends of the academy who attended our fantastic Christmas concert that took place on Wednesday 4 December 2024. Our talented students from the music department showcased their skills and brought the spirit of the season to life through their outstanding performances.
We are incredibly proud of all our musicians and the progress they have made throughout the year. Their dedication and hard work have truly paid off, and we are grateful for their commitment to the arts.
If you were not able to attend the concert, I encourage you to look out for further communication about future performances. I assure you that it will be a treat for the eyes and ears!
Thank you for your continued support of our music department. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful community that values and appreciates the arts.
Our choir have supported the local dementia choir this term. We also visited John Leggot College where we performed at their Christmas fayre and provided the entertainment at the senior citizens' Christmas party.
Our Rock Band performed at Stage Invasion at the Doncaster Dome a few weeks ago. It was their first time performing outside the academy, and it was great to network with musicians in other schools.
The vocal group has resumed their termly visits to the local Epworth Dementia choir. It is really rewarding to support the clients in this activity and we sing songs we wouldn't normally do in our rehearsals. We hope to continue going over the next year.

Performing Arts, Mrs Brook, Subject Leader

It's been a busy half-term in the Performing Arts Department as always!
September 2024
In September, we welcomed some of our new Year 7 students to the cast of Sister Act. This is our annual whole school production which takes place on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 March 2025 at the Academy.
Rehearsals are well under way, and we showcased a teaser to parents at the Christmas Showcase on Wednesday 11 December 2024.
Year 10 Drama Class
The new Year 10 Drama class put on a splendid rolling programme of duologue performances at the Year 5 and 6 Open Evening - it was fantastic to see all sixteen of them in full costume and with their own props showcasing the talent we have at South Axholme.
October 2024
The Drama Club wrote, rehearsed and performed their own Halloween inspired pieces in our annual Halloween Showcase, which was wonderfully weird and whacky as always - another fine example of the hard work that goes on at the extracurricular clubs. The Year 10 Drama class also performed their first whole class piece 'Mobile Phone' and it was great to see them work together as a team and produce a high quality performance.
November 2024
The Year 10 and 11 Performing Arts classes went to watch 'Grease the musical' at Sheffield Lyceum on Wednesday 13 November. This is a piece that has been studied by the Year 11 students and will be reviewed by the Year 10 students. We also took some of the Year 9 Drama Club too.
December 2024
Another trip for our Year 7 students to see 'Jack and the Beanstalk' at CAST Doncaster. Pantomime is a much celebrated British style of theatre and it was a fantastic trip.
The Christmas Showcase took place on Wednesday 11 December 2024 and on the programme there will be work from the Drama Club.
Watch This Space!
The annual London Theatre Trip is in the process of being organised - this will take place in July 2025 and will be open to all Year 8 students.
Mrs Brook has also secured 40 tickets for the musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on Wednesday 26 February for Years 7-9. In addition, the musical &Juliet for Year 9 –11 students on Tuesday 20 May 2025 - more details to follow.

Hospitality and Catering
On the afternoon of Thursday 12 December 2024 the Year 10 food preparation and nutrition students put their hearts and souls into preparing a Christmas feast for the guests who were attending the Christmas Senior Citizens party. The students worked diligently to create a memorable experience, showcasing their culinary skills and spreading the festive cheer.
To set the festive mood, our talented choir performed carols, adding to the ambience. The afternoon tea, served by the Year 10 students, was a perfect combination of delicious treats and warm conversations. Christmas cheer filled the room as our guests indulged in the delectable offerings.
In true Christmas spirit, we organised some enjoyable activities for everyone. The obligatory games of bingo brought smiles and friendly competition, followed by an exciting raffle.
We are very grateful to our students and their commitment to making this Christmas party a success.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to parents/carers/staff who donated raffle prizes for our wider community.

Academy Update - Teaching and Learning

Home Learning - Satchel One
At South Axholme Academy, home learning is an essential part of school life as it supports the curriculum, subject interests and develops core skills such as organisation and independent learning.
Research from the Education Endowment Foundation shows that ‘the impact of homework on learning is consistently positive leading to on average five months’ additional progress.’
To help support students, all home learning at South Axholme is set on a platform called Satchel One. We have been using this platform for a year, and it is proving to be very successful, allowing parents/carers to keep track of their child's homework. As we embrace an increasingly digital approach to work, this provides an up-to-date way of working for all of our community.
Please encourage your child to download the Satchel One app onto their devices. Students can also access Satchel One via any computer if they are unable to download the app.
If you have not yet got your parent information to enable you to access Satchel One to support your child at home, please contact the academy.
We thank parents and students for their cooperation whilst we have introduced this new way of working.

Celebrating Success - Year 11 Leavers Presentation Evening 2024
|
|
On Wednesday 20 November 2024 we welcomed students back to the academy for our Year 11 Presentation Evening.
Awards evening is a key event in the South Axholme calendar. It allows staff and students to pause and reflect upon their successes from their five years at the academy.
It is more than an evening celebrating academic success, reflecting as it does the contributions made to life at the academy both inside and outside the classroom, showcasing our young people at their very best.
South Axholme has much to be proud of and we are privileged to work with such generous, talented and committed students.
Success is much more than a good set of examination results. Success at South Axholme is ensuring that all leavers, regardless of background or ability progress on to appropriate next steps in order that ultimately they can contribute fully to society as well-rounded, successful and happy individuals.
Whatever aspirations you have and wherever you are studying now, we sincerely hope that the experiences and support you received at South Axholme have enabled you to be the person you want to be in the setting you wanted to be.
We wish each one of you continued success and good luck in all of your future endeavours.

SAX Mindset Day 1 - Tuesday 10 December 2024
|
|
We are thrilled to report on the success of the recent SAX Mindset Day held on 10 December 2024. These dedicated days play a fundamental role in nurturing our students' growth as Ready, Resilient, and Responsible individuals.
Throughout the day, each year group delved into specific themes tailored to their stage of development:
- Year 7 looked at "Building a confident and safe me"
- The focus for Year 8 was "Careers"
- Year 9 explored "Democracy and the Law"
- Year 10 tackled the "Realities of Becoming an Adult" and
- Year 11 centred on "Wellbeing and Mindfulness"
This holistic approach encompassed spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, embraced fundamental British values, and imparted age-appropriate sex and relationship education, alongside coverage of personal, social, health, and economic (PSHE) education.
